NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Selects Product To Protect Its Internal Network
Monday, March 27, 2006
NEW YORK -- NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has selected the CounterStorm-1 product to protect the hospital's internal network. CounterStorm, is the maker of an internal network security solution that effectively stops zero-day and targeted attacks in seconds.

The application protects NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital's internal network, including mission critical services and online assets, from targeted and zero-day attacks, which can cause costly and widespread damage. Counterstorm-1 is extremely fast and accurate in identifying targeted attacks and zero-day worm storms. Using advanced blocking and quarantine techniques, CounterStorm-1 quickly stops and contains attacks

As a result, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital achieves unprecedented internal security for its diverse population of students, residents and doctors while complying with HIPAA security regulations for its patient data.

"CounterStorm protects our multi-tiered network by identifying internal network threats and offers the ability to neutralize them immediately. False positives are a costly and time-consuming problem, and having a technology in place that greatly reduces this issue is very important to our organization," said Soumitra Sengupta, Ph.D., information security officer of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. "When the CounterStorm-1 product alerts us to a problem, we take it seriously and take action immediately. CounterStorm-1 provides an essential function to our overall internal network defense, which allows us to maintain the security of the campus, as well as ensure our compliance with HIPAA regulations. It is instrumental in detecting and remediating worms and other malicious or accidental attacks aimed at our network. This protection method is particularly relevant for complex security and availability requirements for medical devices."

"Many organizations continue to focus on perimeter defense while ignoring internal risks which are often the source of damaging attacks", said Jon Oltsik, senior analyst for Enterprise Strategy Group. "Organizations must move beyond this myopic security philosophy and implement the right solutions designed for strong internal defense."

Unlike other security solutions, CounterStorm-1 does not rely on signatures and can accurately identify and automatically stop destructive attacks without time-consuming false positives. Even newer solutions that don't require signatures are plagued by accuracy and latency issues, sometimes taking minutes or hours to detect attacks which CounterStorm-1 stops in seconds. As a result, these tools instill a false sense of security while leaving networks vulnerable.
